Farm Education Workshops - All Stages

Join us on Valentin's Farm, where we have a range of workshops available, working with pupils right through Primary school and into early Secondary stage. Our day visit programme for schools is offered on a seasonal cycle with opportunities to spend time with the various animals including cows, sheep, geese, ducks, turkeys, hens and pigs.

Workshop Topics

Farm to Fork: Suitable for all primary stages. Please state stage at time of booking. Learners will embark on a farm tour to meet all of our animals, with particular focus on where our food comes from. After learning some fantastic facts about different animals on the farm, pupils will get a special opportunity to get up close and meet some of our residents, whilst learning about their produce.

Egg-cellent Workshop: Suitable for all primary stages. Please state stage at time of booking. Pupils will embark on a tour of Valentin's Farm where they will meet all of our native and rare-breed animals, focusing on our poultry in particular. We will look at the importance of eggs for food and why they are so Eggs-cellent for us. Learn about a chicks development inside the egg and why incubation is important. Do you know how long it takes a chick to hatch?

This Farming Life: Suitable for early primary stage only. Please state year group at time of booking. Our farm tour will focus on new life on the farm, and pupils will learn excellent facts about the different animals and their off-spring. Learners will get a special opportunity to get up close and meet some of our farm residents and learn how to handle some of our newborns, (subject to availability). We will also look at why animals live where they do, by looking at their size, structure, coat and the shelter they need. Learners can then use their new knowledge to match our different breeds of cows to the appropriate farm steadings, using our fuzzy felt farm animals. This spring we are expecting the arrival of chicks, ducklings, goslings, lambs, piglets and calves so you never know what you'll see!

Our school education workshops support the delivery of The Curriculum for Excellence, and many of our activities are based outdoors on our 2000 acre estate, making use of our natural spaces to inspire learning. The King's Foundation works in harmony with the natural world, and as such our workshops also touch upon the UN Sustainable Development goals and support learning for sustainability.

COSTS
Workshops for Primary schools are charged at £5.50 per head, based on numbers provided at point of booking. Secondary school workshops are free. You will receive an invoice from The King's Foundation via email once your booking is confirmed..
