Outdoor Learning Workshop - Spring/Summer 2026

Our day workshops cater for pupils of all ages and stages, offering rich outdoor learning experiences that support a wide range of curriculum areas. Whether pupils are building shelters, navigating the estate, or taking part in team-based challenges, they develop problem-solving, communication and practical skills in real-world contexts. Outdoor activities naturally draw on concepts from across the curriculum — from science and technologies to social subjects, health and wellbeing, and expressive arts — helping pupils apply their learning in meaningful ways.

We follow ‘Leave No Trace’ principles throughout, ensuring that every activity respects and protects the environment. Pupils leave with increased confidence, new skills, and a stronger sense of collaboration, contributing to a more harmonious and supportive learning environment.

Workshops which are currently available can be found below. Some workshops are only available on specific days of the week. Please check the day headers above each listing when selecting your workshop to ensure availability. This will help you choose the options that best fit your timetable.

Mondays

Science of Survival - All Stages - Full Day - 10am - 2pm

Give your class an unforgettable adventure in the great outdoors with our Bushcraft Workshop! Our full-day experience brings essential survival skills to life through hands-on, memorable activities. Pupils will explore the Survival Rule of 3, learning how to prioritise needs and make smart decisions in a wilderness setting. They’ll master fire-lighting techniques, try simple water-filtration methods, and build effective shelters—working together to solve problems, stay resilient, and think creatively.

More than a day outside, this workshop strengthens confidence, encourages teamwork, and fosters a deeper connection with the natural world. It’s an empowering learning experience that your pupils will carry with them long after they return to the classroom.

Wednesdays

S.O.S Survival Out of School - Late Primary Only - Full Day - 10am-2pm

Pupils are thrust into a high-stakes scenario: Mountain Rescue has issued an urgent call for help to locate an injured missing person somewhere on the estate. Working against time, pupils must plan and carry out a coordinated search, using real-time decision making to navigate the landscape, assess clues, and prioritise actions. As the mission unfolds, they’ll put essential skills into practice — problem solving, delegation, communication, trust, and teamwork — while learning to recognise their own strengths and those of their peers. Once the missing person is found, the challenge continues as pupils construct a practical, weather-resistant shelter to protect them until help arrives. This immersive adventure builds confidence, resilience and cooperation, offering pupils a realistic taste of outdoor rescue while sparking curiosity and respect for the natural environment.

Thursdays

Pathfinders - Late Primary and Secondary Stages - Half Day Workshop (One half of your group will attend the workshop whilst the other half has free time on the Estate. The groups will swap at lunch time.)

An Orienteering Adventure. Set your pupils on a journey of discovery with this dynamic, outdoor navigation challenge. Pathfinders introduces learners to the core skills of map reading, route planning, and spatial awareness through exciting, hands-on exploration. Working in teams, pupils navigate clearly marked trails, identify key landmarks, and make quick, informed decisions as they move across our stunning estate. Along the way, they’ll build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and develop resilience—all while gaining a deeper connection to the natural world. This adventure blends problem-solving with physical activity, encouraging learners to think, communicate, and collaborate as they chart their own course.

Our school education workshops support the delivery of The Curriculum for Excellence, and many of our activities are based outdoors on our 2000 acre estate, making use of our natural spaces to inspire learning.
