Workshop Topics
Farm to Fork: Suitable for all primary stages. Please state stage at time of booking. Learners will embark on a farm tour to meet all of our animals, with particular focus on where our food comes from. After learning some fantastic facts about different animals on the farm, pupils will get a special opportunity to get up close and meet some of our residents, whilst learning about their produce.
Egg-cellent Workshop: Suitable for all primary stages. Please state stage at time of booking. Pupils will embark on a tour of Valentin's Farm where they will meet all of our native and rare-breed animals, focusing on our poultry in particular. We will look at the importance of eggs for food and why they are so Eggs-cellent for us. Learn about a chicks development inside the egg and why incubation is important. Do you know how long it takes a chick to hatch?
This Farming Life: Suitable for early primary stage only. Please state year group at time of booking. Our farm tour will focus on new life on the farm, and pupils will learn excellent facts about the different animals and their off-spring. Learners will get a special opportunity to get up close and meet some of our farm residents and learn how to handle some of our newborns, (subject to availability). We will also look at why animals live where they do, by looking at their size, structure, coat and the shelter they need. Learners can then use their new knowledge to match our different breeds of cows to the appropriate farm steadings, using our fuzzy felt farm animals. This spring we are expecting the arrival of chicks, ducklings, goslings, lambs, piglets and calves so you never know what you'll see!

Our farm education activity takes pupils from Primary 1 through to upper secondary school and develops an understanding of the food production system and good practice in farming. Workshops are contextualised by age and range from the opportunity to view an egg in development to handling new-born chicks or focusing on one particular industry such as dairy or beef farming.
Secondary pupils with an interest in rural skills are able to gain a greater understanding of animal husbandry and welfare beyond that available in school to enhance their skills and knowledge. We place great importance in sustainable farming practice to ensure that pupils who take part in our workshops develop an understanding of the issues the planet currently faces in producing food for an expanding population without detriment to the planet.

In these workshops your time will be split between Valentin's Education Farm and the Pierburg Kauffman Education Garden. Here we teach how growing plants and caring for animals are closely linked — and how both play a vital role in supporting our planet. These engaging sessions explore everything from growing fruit and vegetables in the garden to looking after farm animals, helping students understand where their food comes from and how farmers and gardeners alike, work with nature.
Spring to Life Workshop: Suitable for all primary stages. Please state stage at time of booking. In 'Spring to Life', learners will embark on a farm tour to meet all of our animals, with particular focus on Spring and New Life. Pupils will learn excellent facts about our native and rare-breed animals, and will have the opportunity to get up close with and learn how to hold some baby animals, (subject to time of year and availability). In the garden, pupils will look at the importance of the seasons and their impact on how we grow and eat our food. Rooted in His Majesty The King's Harmony in Nature philosophy, our workshops highlight regenerative and sustainable practices, encouraging children to develop good habits they can carry forward and share with others.
